Let's Play Real Life Mario Kart!

I'm sure Mario Kart is one of the most nostalgic video games from our childhood. The moustache plumber in dungarees has won the hearts of many people all over the world. If you didn't know already, you can actually play Mario Kart in real life! Sounds pretty awesome, right? 

There is a tour company called MariCar which started this super fun craze in Japan. You can dress up as your favourite Mario Kart character as well as driving a go-kart around the city to visit famous landmarks. You can easily find MariCar tours in multiple cities across the country. 

I was thrilled when I had the chance to go on this tour in Akihabara. The tour was well designed and our tour guide was extremely professional and friendly. On top of that he took lots of photos for us! 

Before you decide to go on this tour, here are a few things to keep in mind:

• If you hold a foreign driving license, you may need an International Driving Permit. I got mine from the AA. You can also apply for a permit through the RAC and the Post Office. For more information on foreign driving licenses in Japan, please click here.
  
  
• Remember to book at least a few days in advance in order to secure your preferred time. You can easily contact MariCar via Facebook. 
  
  
• You can rent different accessories, including GoPros, LED shoes and portal speakers. 

If you're looking for an unconventional way to tour the city of Tokyo, then I would recommend MariCar! Apart from seeing various landmarks around the city, you also get a chance to drive through suburban areas.
